I. Job Summary
The Dispatcher supports the Route Manager in handling incoming service orders, scheduling and directing drivers, and resolving service issues. This position coordinates with other departments to ensure the delivery of optimal service. The Dispatcher also records and documents a variety of information about daily operations and service.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
·Dispatches drivers to calls as they are received, using information on customer needs, drivers’ locations and loads, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response.
·Initiates outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site/location, resolving pick-up and other issues.
·Monitors and communicates to drivers potential roadway, route, or weather hazards and any changing conditions that could affect route efficiency.
·Fields incoming calls from customers or customer service department, managing requests for pick-up or container delivery and ensuring same-day service.
·Troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in service issues.
·Ensures same-day service on missed pick-ups by coordinating driver movement in the field.
·Documents routes using information provided by logistics staff, including appropriate tickets/documentation.
·Assists in determining daily level of driver staffing to provide best mix of responsiveness and productivity.
·Identifies and plans deployment for increases/decreases in route volumes, shifting resources in response to seasonal and other fluctuations.
·Assists with the driver check-in process at the end of the day/shift, including review of route sheets, documentation of sales and service opportunities, identification of safety issues and problem stops.
·Records “haul or call” and other service issues using appropriate computer applications.
·Records driver productivity information using appropriate computer applications (e.g., MAS).
·Documents sales and service issues, distributing information to appropriate departments.
·Ensures accuracy and thoroughness of pick-up, container delivery, service, and driver records.
·Ensures coordination with other departments, clarifying roles and responsibilities for resolving service issues.
·Works with routing specialists, Route Managers, and the service department to optimize routes.
·Performs other duties as assigned.

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Dispatch experience preferred. A minimum of one year in customer service, or accounting/billing operations desired. Waste or transportation experience a plus.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
None required.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
·Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language used in the workplace.
·Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process. Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
·Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
·Must have excellent negotiation skills.
·Must have quick problem solving ability.
·Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data and possess moderate computational ability.
·Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.
·Excellent inter-personal skills.
·Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize departmental functions in order to meet due dates and deadlines.
·Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, and vendors.
·Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.
